Due date: The day of the second midterm
 
How to turn in: Turn in a copy to Turnitin.com on the day we take midterm 2.
 
Point value: This activity is worth 20 points.
 
Considerations: We will discuss this topic in class and you are encouraged to talk about this topic with your classmates outside of class. You can even read each other’s papers. However, simply copying and editing another person’s paper is considered plagiarism and you will, at a minimum, get a zero on this assignment. Turnitin.com is very good at catching plagiarizers. Please do not attempt.
 
Resubmission policy: Any paper that receives a score of less than 19 (93%) can be revised and resubmitted. However, the resubmit option can only be used once. And the maximum score possible for a paper that is resubmitted is 19. There is a section on Turnitin.com where you can turn in a resubmission. Also, you must turn in a hard copy as well. You will have until the next exam to resubmit. No late resubmissions will be accepted.
 
Assignment:
 
Watch The Color of Fear. It was shown in class. Or go to the library and watch it there. What was your reaction to the comments made in the video? Did you understand the perspectives of the men in the video? What was your reaction to the long discussion about who is an American? What was your reaction to the fear that some people of color fear in certain areas? What was your reaction to the anger expressed by one of the African American men (Victor)? What was your reaction to the conflict between some of the men of color and one of the white men (David)? Think about specific comments made by some of the men. What reality do you think is more real? The ones expressed by the men of color or the reality expressed by David? 
 
 
Grading rubric:
 
1. demonstrated critical thinking
3. it is well written
4. it is at least one page, double-spaced (at least 300 words)

Stereotype threat - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The phenomenon was later examined by the social psychologists Claude Steele and Joshua Aronson, who articulated the mechanism of "stereotype threat" that contributes to test performance of minority groups. In one such study, Steele and Aronson (1995) administered the Graduate Record Examination to European American and African American students. Half of each group was told that their intelligence was being measured, while the other half didn't know what the test was measuring. The European American students performed almost equally in the two conditions of the experiment.
